Embroidered Pillow
I have been very slack with my blogging as of late but I'm back! Today is my day off work and what to do? Make a vealy (sorry ha) comfy cushion cover.
I found this image of a lamb in a cooking book, stitched on red fabric to make a calico cushion cover. The cushion materials were very inexpensive due to using calico. I love calico. Not only is it really cheap but really nice to stitch on.
You can use whatever fabric and images you like using the instructions below.
Let's begin!
- Start by measuring your cushion insert and add 1 inch on all sides for seam allowance cut out fabric. (This will be the front of your cushion)
- Pin measured cut out fabric cushion piece to another piece of fabric, add 4 inches to the length and cut out. (The longest piece of fabric is the back of the pillow)
- Take the longest piece of fabric cut down the middle to have 2 equal pieces of fabric.
- Along the edge you just cut, fold the edge to make a 1/4 inch hem, pin and sew. (Do this to both pieces of fabric.)
- After sewing the hem of both pieces of fabric, set them aside and take the front (smaller) piece of fabric, mount into embroidery hoop and stitch your image to the front.
- After stitching, remove the hoop, turn fabric over and thoroughly iron to remove all creases and hoop ring mark.
- Pin all sides together, right sides of the fabric facing inwards and wrong sides facing you. (Outwards)
- Stitch around all sides of the cushion removing the pins as you go. Back stitch over the seam opening to stabilize the fabric as that part of the fabric will be pulled on when inserting and removing the cushion.
- Turn the cushion right side out and push out the corners and success! You're finished an embroidered personalized cushion cover.
